Ruth Zarit, 95, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 9, 2020, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Nov. 3, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a retired food demonstrator for Costco Kona and owner of the former Papa Louie’s clothing store.

She is survived by daughter, Wende (Jim) Brough of Honaunau; son, Steven (Romy) Zarit of Montana; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Edilberto Tabafunda
Edilberto Camat Tabafunda, 63, of Papaaloa, died Sept. 2, 2020 at Hale Ho Ola Hamakua. Born June 16, 1957, in Bacnotan La Union, Philippines, he was a landscaper.

He is survived by wife, Eufemiana Tabafunda of Paagan, Philippines; children, Bernie Tabafunda, Eden (Ronnie) Nares and Edwin Tabafunda, all of Paagan, Philippines; sister, Leona (Vicente) Nacis of Papaaloa; brothers, Rogelio (Patricia) Tabafunda of Paagan, Philippines and Gil (Jonalyn) Tabafunda of Waimea; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathryn Dedman
Kathryn Margaret Dedman, 74, of Kurtistown, died Sept. 1, 2020, at her residence. Born in Olympia, WA, she was the co-owner of The Butterfly Inn in Kurtistown and a social worker.

William Freyser
William “Bill” O’Neill Freyser, 85, of Hilo died Sept. 1, 2020, at his residence. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a retired chief warrant officer III with the U.S. Army, shipmaster, law instructor at the University of Hawaii-Hilo, shipmaster license instructor on Oahu, U.S. Army Special Forces veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and recipient of the Purple Heart, Silver Star and bronze Star medals.

He is survived by wife, Shigeko Freyser of Hilo; daughter, Kiyomi (Akira) Takashima of Japan; son, Joji (Yasumi) Sueyoshi of Japan; sister, Ann Louise Baker of Blue Island, Illinois; caregiver, Julia Hoke of Hilo; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Theanne Mehau
Theanne Anela Mehau, 65, died Aug. 15, 2020, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born May 19, 1955, in Honolulu, she worked for Western and Delta airlines.
